A tour between folklore, history and impressive nature

Catania is one of the most vibrant cities in Sicily facing the rich Ionian Sea, it has a cultural and artistic heritage which is second to none. The city offers a variety of tourist and folklore attractions from the majestic Duomo of Sant’Agata with its iconic elephant statue representing the city, the suggestive Fish Market “A Piscaria”, the beautiful Ursino Castle and the Villa Bellini.

This tour will also take us towards the Cyclops Riviera famous for its basalt rock lines and legendary Greek mythology surrounding Polifemo and Ulisse. Finally, Aci Castello renowned for its antique Castle and spectacular views of historic lava flows on the seabed. The Castle is host to a museum illustrating the history and the legends of local fishermen.

Catania • Aci Castello • Acitrezza

  1. Pick-up at your Hotel

    The day will begin with the collection from your accommodation at a pre-arranged time.

  2. Sant’Agata Duomo, Fish Market, Palazzo Biscari, Villa Bellini

    Catania – A city offering a vast Sicilian culture and historic experience. The city centre embraces the magic of Piazza Duomo home to the majestic Cathedral of Sant’Agata, its symbol of Catania “The Elephant” and the typical markets offering local delicacies including “The Piscaria”, the renowned fish market.
    However, it’s not only this composition of areas that illuminates the splendour of this city. A particular jewel of the history of Catania is the Palazzo Biscari, an imposing baroque building dating back to 17th century and considered to be one of the most beautiful noble palaces o the whole of the island. When entering the inside of this incredible palace you will note rich ornate with particular attention to the symmetrical details. The ceiling in the main reception hall offer a series of paintings by Michele Panebianco whilst the walls have been decorated with a splendid gold plaster. As our last stop we will cross the main road of the city the Via Etnea, arriving at Villa Bellini. These public gardens are situated in the heart of Catania and designed by the architect Emilio Biscari in the 19th century. Today it represents one of the most beautiful and fascinating areas of the city hosting cultural and music events on an international scale.

  3. Aci Castello – Historic Museum

    Aci Castello is a scenic coastal town known for its small and fascinating marina surrounded by volcanic rocks. One of the most beautiful places in Aci Castello is the castle, a fortress built in the 14th century on the top of a promontory of black basalt. The civic museum hosts interesting art work and the church of San Giovanni Battista is an elegant example of baroque architecture situated in the heart of the historic centre of Aci Castello.

  4. Acitrezza - Faraglioni - I Malavoglia

    Acitrezza is famous for its splendid volcanic lava stacks, also mentioned in Greek Mythology in which the lava stacks were thrown by Polifemo towards Odisseo during his escape from the giants’ cave. During this action Odisseo hit the giant with a burning stack successfully escaping with his men on his ship. In fact, the stacks of Acitrezza are a series of conic rocks which emerge from the sea in various heights, these stacks have been immortalised by the Sicilian writer Giovanni Verga in the romantic novel I Malavoglia, which have made the city of Acitrezza famous around the world. Acitrezza offers various activities and points of interest like the small Port, the Folkloric fish market and the promenade with its various restaurants and bars serving Sicilian delicacies.

We will collect you from your accommodation at a previously agreed time between 8.30am and 9am.
