A journey through nature, history and traditions

Our journey begins in the suggestive hilltop town of Enna, situated in the heart of Sicily and surrounded by natural beauty of the Erei Mountains. Explore this old town visiting the castle of Lombardia the cathedral and the sanctuary of Maria Santissima. Admire the breath taking panoramic views from the belvedere piazza which is the highest point of the city. After Enna we visit Piazza Armerina, made famous for its legendary discovery of Villa Romana del Casale. Part of the UNESCO World Heritage sites where you can admire the wonderful Roman mosaics pristinely conserved with particular attention given to the historic centre and the mother church.

Finally our visit concludes in the splendid city of Caltagirone, renowned for its locally designed and produced ceramics with bright colours each telling various local traditional tales. We will have the opportunity to visit the museum of ceramics and some local artists in their laboratories where we will have the chance to touch the hand painted terracotta with our hands.

Enna • Piazza Armerina • Caltagirone

  1. Pick-up at your Hotel

    The day will begin with the collection from your accommodation at a pre-arranged time.

  2. Enna, Lombardia Castle and Cathedral

    Enna is the highest city in Sicily, populated from historic times by the Sicani (native Sicilians) and various populations who invaded the island over centuries. Noted for its panoramic positioning, high up in the hills it gifts a breath-taking view, making this a very popular destination not only for tourist but for locals. The fascinating medieval castle, the Lombardia positioned on the highest point of the cliff was built in the 14th century and is the principle attraction of this city, offering incredible views of the city below. Another important attraction is the wonderful Cathedral, dating back to the 13th century and presenting itself with a baroque facade, rich in architectural details. Enna is also renowned for its culinary tradition, one of the many specialities is the “Ennese Biscuit”, better known as the “Buccellato di Enna” filled with dried fruits and figs.

  3. Piazza Armerina - Roman Villa del Casale

    Piazza Armerina is a city rich in history and natural beauty, the city was founded by the Greeks and went on to be conquered by the Romans. This is what makes Piazza Armerina rich in culture and artistic value. One of the places which carries most interest is surely The Villa Romana Casale, famous for its antique mosaics pristinely kept and restored. The villa offers 3,500 square meters of mosaics representing scenes of everyday life of the old Roman times, between feasts, hunts and games of Gladiators. Piazza Armerina is not only about the Villa Romana, its historic centre offers fascinating small side streets that lead to the main piazza where the majestic Maria Santissima church is located.

  4. Caltagirone – Sicilian Ceramics

    Caltagirone is renowned throughout the world for the production of ceramics, its artistic design and lively colours are unique. The ceramics of Caltagirone have been recognised as part of the UNESCO World Heritage since 2008, thanks to its important history and culture. The local artisans hand make the ceramics using centurion techniques and elements inspired by Sicilian traditions and local folklore shaped in modern and original pieces. The city offers a vast array of ceramics, from unique pieces, to every day tableware. Apart from the museum of ceramics visitors can admire the artistic steps of Santa Maria del Monte, composed of 142 steps dating back to the 17th century representing mythological figures, floral and religious meanings.
