The Refuge of Piano Provenzana

The adventure starts with meeting your Volcanologist guide at 7,30 am, place of meeting: Piano Provenzana. The ascent is programmed via a 4x4 bus to an altitude of 2800 metres. After this we will start our trek of circa 4km with a difference in altitude of 500 mt, reaching a height of 3300 metres above sea level. The course is of difficult level and lasts approximately 2 hours. Once we have reached the central crater we start our descent back to 2800 metres. From here it will be possible to ascend on foot back to the starting point, or return on the 4x4 bus. Alternatively, you may decide to return to Piano Provenzana on foot at 1800 metres altitude. If you decide to continue on foot the excursion will take approximately 5 - 6 hours, if you decide to use transport for your descent the total experience will last around 4 and a half hours.
A good physical condition is required to face the climb to the summit.

We will meet directly at Piano Provenzana Etna North at 7.30am. Or (on request at the time of booking) we can collect you from your accommodation at an agreed time.
Your guide will be an experienced volcano guide that speaks: Italian, English, French with a deep knowledge of Volcanoes and the local area.
We recommend booking this excursion in advance to avoid disappointment, especially during days of festivities. We require at least 2 days notice and bookings are subject to availability.
