The White Lotus is on its second series, produced by HBO, written and directed by Mike White in January 2023. The White Lotus has received 2 Golden Globes and various other accolades which effectively took the series to the top of the American Film Institute’s charts and was voted as one of the best programmes in the Country. Season 2 of White Lotus was filmed in various cities throughout Sicily: Taormina, Cefalu’, Noto and surroundings. Demonstrating some of the main tourist attractions of the Island, for example the Baroque palazzo’s, beautiful Sicilian beaches and many historic landmarks. Most notable is the very centre of Taormina in the majestic Four Season San Domenico Palace which represents the Hotel where the series is filmed. Telling the story of people within various social levels and how their lives entwine due to unforeseen circumstances.

Taormina naturally lends itself to film production offering a taste of authentic Sicily. A must see during your trip to Taormina is Isola Bella (Beautiful Island), nominated within the UNESCO world heritage of humanity Listing, this small rocky island is situated on the coastline of Taormina. This wonderful beach is used in some scenes of The White Lotus. Offering a magical atmosphere thanks to its positioning, with its crystal waters and rich scenery tainted by Mediterranean air. With regards to its culinary aspect. Taormina offers a great variety of plates within the Sicilian tradition. Pasta alla Norma (Pasta with Aubergines), Arancini’s (Rice balls, Cannoli and many varieties of tasty almond sweets keeping the tradition alive.
The Sanctuary of Tindari is a religious structure built high on the hills offering majestic sea views. Here you will be able to admire the beautiful statue of the black Madonna, and its artistic and architectural treasures revered by loyal Catholics throughout Sicily and beyond. Another wonder is the Greek Theatre of Tindari, built in the IV century before Christ. One of the best kept Greek Theatres in Sicily. Here you are able to stroll along the steps and imagine the theatrical and musical performances held in this antique theatre throughout history. The breath-taking views surrounding the Northern coastline, the Oliveri natural Reserve, the Marinello lakes and the Milazzo Castle make this visit all worthwhile.

Cefalu, the wonderful city set on the coastline of Sicily is used in many scenes of the series The White Lotus. The principal attraction is the beach of Cefalu. A beautiful beach with golden sand situated on the jagged coastline and the boundless crystal blue sea. We can't go to Cefalu without visiting the Cathedral dating back to the 12th Century and considered to be one of the best examples of Norman architecture in Sicily, situated in the historic centre and characterized by its imposing towers and splendid mosaics representing scenes from the old and the new Testament. The visit within the cathedral is a real immersion in local history and art. While walking in the pedestrianized centre you will be able to visit locations used in various scenes throughout the series: The Piazza Duomo and The Piazza Marina on the old port looking toward the seafront of the old town and the old wash room of Cefalu. Obviously it will be very easy to find a spot for lunch to suit your needs before your return to your accommodation.
