Giardini Naxos was founded in 734 b.c. by the Greek colonists, it is the oldest Greek colony in Sicily. The archaeological museum and the archaeological area of Naxos are some of the must see stops for visitors interested in history and culture. The bay of Giardini Naxos was one the areas that the Director of the White Lotus chose as location for the scene on the boat. With a magnificent backdrop of Taormina and Mount Etna, it makes this one of the most appreciated areas of marine locations.
The Castle of Slaves is an antique mansion with a high impact of artistic culture, it was built in the 19th Century by Francesco Schiavetti, a local businessman as a rural retreat for his family. In years the castle was used by Baron Pietro Lanza of Scalea, who enriched the property with works of art and water paintings. Recently inherited by Baron Franco Platania, the Castle was used in various cinematographic shoots including the Godfather by Francis Ford Coppola, The Leopard by Luchino Visconti and most recently certain scenes where shot from The White Lotus 2 by Mike White. Today the Castle of Slaves is open to the public as a museum, where it is possible to admire the hand painted walls in the corridors with memories of the previous owner Baron Franco of all the films shot by various Film Directors, you will also be able to visit the surrounding gardens with typical Sicilian plants. The cost of entry is Euro 25 for a 1 hour visit personally carried out by the Baron.
Noto is a beautiful city in the province of Siracusa, situated in the South of Sicily. Thanks to its unique Baroque architecture. Noto is renowned as the Capital of Sicilian Baroque, the old town is part of the World Heritage Unesco. A very popular tourist location in turn is a very attractive choice for film directors when choosing their backdrop like the White Lotus 2.
The cinematographic sets chosen for the second series of the White Lotus in Noto where the Church of San Francesco situated in the historic centre of the City built in the 18th Century, the Cathedral of Noto located at the highest point of the main street which remains a grandeur example of Baroque architecture, The Cathedral was completed in the 18th Century and made famous for its majestic columns and beautiful stained glass. On the inside of the Cathedral you can admire works of art: Paintings and sculptures of historic and cultural value. During your visit to Noto you will have the opportunity for a brief lunch break in one of the many local restaurants before returning to your accommodation.
